 Emancipation day 

celebrated in Belize 

yesterday,

finally.

My brothers carry the torch

of highlighting 

the importance of remembering

where our ancestor came from.

And though the passage was dark

along the way

they created inner light

of resilience

and gave birth us,

the light children.
