Unrequited

The relationships we have early on

mold us

and carve out spaces into us

holding us

to stay in that same space

as we grow older.

Realizing that your mother rejected you

your father rejected you

and that's why your lovers reject you

is very painful...

And yes, intellectually knowing 

"None of what I seek is in the other person" makes sense

and is profoundly true,

but doesn't cure the sad heart

or the child who needed a hug,

who then grew up into a woman

still needing mending

and care that never came.
