a high-pitched whistle.

The dog

coughed a rough snarl.

The buses and cars 

zoomed by.

and the people 

though housed away 

from each other

and an unseen enemy

started to congregate.

and the drunks drank.

and the liars lied.

the cheaters cheated.

 and the fools did foolish things
