Why do we lie to ourselves?

Fear.

Fear of the actual truth smacking us in the face

with the giant fist of reality.

Slap!

The only reality that has ever been,
the one we now see.

When that kind of reality sets in,
a different hyper awareness takes over.

An awareness that makes the "darkness" unbearable

and now that it is known 

can one continue to tighten the straps over the eyes,

or allow them to fall away?
