The Forbidden Dance Pt. 1
It was love at first sight.
Mesmerizing.
Entrancing.
It bewitched me and I had to have it as my own. What was it?
A room full of dancers in bright colors swaying their hips to booming drums; undulating their torsos to singing violins and holding the audience with penetrating eyes...Bellydance.
When the dancers feet kissed the ground in my direction, the conjuring music embraced me and the pull was magnetic.
and...I said yes!
In that moment, I transformed into a conduit of shimmies and wore it like a veil.
(This photo from 2011 when my journey just began, I loved the big stage and beautiful costumes!)
As I reflect it's mere words, Bellydance is to be experienced...up close and personal...but until then, I share with you several short clips of my recent performance.
It wasn't on a big stage with flashy lights or the beautiful costumes, no.
It was under a thatched roof, in the jungles of Belize with a small audience; intimate, earthy and authentic.
The evening wind airbrushed me cool as the music began.
I hadn't danced in almost a year, but the pull was there...steady and sure.
I felt grounded.
I felt like myself...
and fell in love all over again.
